The Andros Diner

diners Mel and DebbieOk, now this isn't exactly a classic example of American Diner Architecture. The Andros Diner diners Melin Belmot, MA calls itself a diner, and in terms of cuisine and spirit it certainly is. It's simply housed in a fairly unattractive brick building. That said, in my high school days I ate a lot of meals here. Jack and I had the day off -- since it was Martin Luther King Day -- so we called Great-Grandpa Mel and invited him to lunch. This is where he chose to meet us. We certainly were excited to spend the afternoon with him at a diner.

Mel and his friend Debbie joined us in the back of the diner, where Jack and I had staked out our territory. Our waitress had found him a clean booster seat, and given us our own area so Jack could talk as loudly as he wanted. Just a couple of days before Jack had taught himself to drink from a bottle by himself. As you can see from the photos he had gotten quite good at it. Jack lit up when he saw his great-grandfather, and the two of them spent most of the meal playing and making faces at each other. Jack especially loved playing with Mel's keys.

diners Andros MilkWe all ordered, and settled into a great discussion of state and national politics, which is standard when we get together. Jack is still independent and has yet to make up his mind on any of the major issues. I ordered a club sandwich while Jack got his usual of a grilled cheese and a plate of french fries. Debbie ordered eggplant parm, and Mel got a dish with chicken, rice and vegetables. When our food arrived Mel had a great time feeding Jack small handfuls of his tasty dish, which Jack seemed to love. Jack also devoured his entire sandwich and most of the fries.

It was wonderful to see them, and another great diner outing for Jack and me. Afterwards, we said our goodbyes and Jack and I headed to the YMCA to go swimming. No black & white cookie, but still a great place.
