The Quaker Diner
I was introduced to this fabulous diner by our friend Dararith Ly the morning after the Crust Blues Project recorded its first album. While it does not look like a traditional diner from the outside (it is completely covered in brick) it is 100% classic diner. I believe, in fact, that it is a traditional diner car that is now covered in brick. As you can see from the photos has all of the requisite diner accoutrements inside -- a long formica counter lined with vinyl topped stools, cramped booths, an open-faced grill, and even a jukebox of old '45s.
While the Quaker serves breakfast and lunch. Thick french toast covered in fresh fruit. Heaps of buttermilk pancakes. Terrifically inventive sandwiches with local and celebrity names.
This time we not only got to bring Jack, but Gail and Steve met us there as well. Jack had another grilled cheese, but he also tried french fries for the first time. Deena had a terrific vanilla shake and a sandwich. Gail and Steve split a late breakfast of eggs, sausage and home fries. The meal was excellent.
More importantly, the other patrons and the waitress were great to us. As usual, Jack made eyes at our server, and she made them right back at him. A local pre-school teacher (pictured right at the counter) also came over and spent time talking with us and playing with the Tootieman. Everyone encouraged Jack to explore the diner, and he loved it.

We cannot wait to go back to the Quaker, especially if Dararith, Janine and DJ can join us.
