The Yankee Diner
Worcester Dining Car - 1947
Jack, Winston, Deena and I were driving through central Massachusetts on our way to see Gail and Steve. Jack woke up suddenly and needed to eat. I punched in the Point of Interest key on my trusty GPS and click on the button marked "Diner". To our amazement, up popped The Yankee Diner, which was only 4 miles away. I asked Jack if he wanted to try it and he said "Yeah" (that's one of maybe 10 things he says these days...). With great excitement we changed our route and made our way towards the Yankee.
As soon as we got near it we knew it was over. The snow drifts were covering parts of the building, and there wasn't even a cleared path to the front door. A handwritten message on a white board at the front entrance said it all:
To all my diner friends and family,
Thank you for your support & your friendship,
Thank you all for memories I will always cherish.
Good luck and thank you always.
Deb
I'm gutted that we never got to eat here. It looks like it was a well-loved place, both by the customers and the owner. I've attached a link to a review of the Yankee from just last year by our friends at the blog Dinersaur. Clearly it was still serving fantastic food. Good bye Yankee Diner. You will be missed.
